In 2012, my “rock days” were officially behind me.
It was a hard time for me.
I was working full-time at Guitar Center, new relationship, baby on the way out of wedlock, trying to figure out what life looked like outside the stage lights.
One day, I picked up my guitar and this song poured out.
“Young Once” was the first real Americana/Alt-Country song I ever wrote, and I knew I had found something honest.
It’s fiery and wild at the start, a love that hits fast and hard like most American love stories do. But by the end, it settles into something deeper… something built on faith, forgiveness, and commitment.
This song marked a shift in me.
I didn’t just fall in love, I fell in love with storytelling.
With the idea that the mess, the beauty, the real-life stuff was the song.
We were young once.
But what we’ve built?
That’s grown-man love.
